This picture shows the view from the stairs that go from the main floor up to the bedroom/bathroom floor. Note that the wall that separates the living room (right) and the kitchen (left) is what we call a "half wall". There is plenty of room there for your kitchen appliances that you don't use very often. Not shown is the ceiling fan above and slightly to the right of the wall.
